When you think of Burgundy, what immediately comes to mind? Wine, of course, since the province produces many of the world's best vintages. Burgundy, however, offers much, much more than wines.
Until 1477 the vast duchy of Burgundy was larger and more powerful than France, with lands extending into present-day Holland, Belgium and Luxembourg. Its wealthy dukes sponsored artists and architects whose masterpieces endure to the present. Medieval religious communities built impressive churches. Generations of monks patiently cultivated vines and improved techniques of fermentation and aging to create great vintages. And Burgundy's farms have always produced the fine ingredients which local chefs transform into such succulent dishes as "Boeuf bourgignon," (our own "Beef Burgundy").
