Guided tour of Beaune and its strikingly colorful Hôtel-Dieu. From the 15th century until recently it served as a charitable hospital; now it is an impressive repository of art and mementos of customs and medical practices in medieval Burgundy. |

Free time to explore Beaune or walk in the nearby vineyards. |
Day 3: Tuesday, July 8 (Hotel near Beaune) |

Morning |

Guided walking tour of Dijon, ancient capital of the Duchy of Burgundy, including the Palace of the Dukes of Burgundy and the old town. |

Afternoon |
|
Free time to explore Dijon independently. |
|
Tour of the historical Clos de Vougeot, built by Cistercian monks in the 12th century. Surrounded by magnificent vineyards, it houses prestigious cellars and collections of winepresses from the Middle Ages. |
Day 4: Wednesday, July 9 (Hotel near Beaune) |

Morning |

Drive to Tournus in southern Burgundy. Guided tour of its 10th-century Saint-Philibert Abbey. |

Lunch |
|
Followed by a walk in the old feudal market town of Brancion, perched on a spur overlooking deep ravines, and the tiny village of Chapaize. |

Late afternoon |
|
Visit and guided tour of the château of Cormatin, a jewel dating from the beginning of the 17th century. |
Day 5: Thursday, July 10 (Hotel near Beaune) |

Morning |

Walk in the vineyards near Pommard, Volnay and Meursault and taste some of Burgundy's most prestigious wines. |

Visit to the beautiful château and village of La Rochepot. |

Afternoon |

Free time or short bike ride or visit to the medieval village and château of Châteauneuf. |
Day 6: Friday, July 11 (Hotel in Auxerre) |

Morning |

Guided tour of the tranquil Abbey of Fontenay, oldest surviving Cistercian foundation in France. Its beautiful Romanesque church reflects the sublime spirit of order and simplicity. |

Lunch in Flavigny or Semur-en-Auxois. |

Free time in Auxerre. |

Dinner in Chablis. |
Day 7: Saturday, July 12 (Hotel in Auxerre) |

Guided walking tour of Auxerre: old houses, cathedral dominating the skyline above the Yonne River, the waterfront, little shops. |
